There is something to be said for avoiding conflict at all costs and eating some shit.
The difference between some slight abuse and getting killed is vast.
But always be prepared to go absolutely apeshit if physically attacked.

Like the revenge story. And I agree that there are douchebags and politics involved in corporate America and yours is a good example. But this is not any evidence of racial bias. If anything you seem to have the bias against “Frat Boys”. Point is there are a lot of reasons people get passed over or screwed over in the office. I just think race is not the biggest reason, that is a crutch used way too frequently in society these days. One thing I can say for certain on that topic, when I graduated from College (many moons ago), if I were black or female I could have picked any job I wanted.
Uh, I would disagree with that…Asian bias usually comes in the form of thinking asians will put up with shit…Because the previous generation had the reputation of being passive. So you could treat them like shit and they would put up with it… So there is a stereotype of asians and you see it come up occasionally.
I’d like to give an example.
I was at a Rite Aid a few years back when I was younger, and being me, I was a little absentminded, so I didn’t know there was a line forming in a certain direction, and accidentally stepped in ahead of this Karen. Oh god, she went off of me…because you know I look kinda nerdie and quiet…But she kept yelling, so finally I went off at her, told her to to shut the fvck up and and just about every expletive I could think of came out of mouth.. and then she got scared and shutup… Why? Because I guarantee you if instead of being a “harmless” looking Asian, but a 220lb african american football player, she wouldn’t have said a word to begin with….And the fact that I seemed like this quiet harmless asian person that suddenly sounded like a psycho, well…That was an interesting lesson for me…Don’t come across as being passive asian, and people won’t pick on you.
Asians have being stereotyped as being passive throughout the years. So stepping on asians have become normalized and happens all the time…It will take about 2 generations to fix this.
Again you are putting too much stock in the race thing. The fact that you might have gotten stepped on in this or any other instance is because you are/were a nerdly looking weakling. Nerds have been picked on since the dawn of time. Just watch (rewatch I hope) Revenge of the Nerds for a good laugh. I do agree that on average, Asian men are small, week and more nerdy looking than say their white and definitely their black counterparts. But the problem is not race. It’s that society has always mistreated nerds and large athletic types (regardless of race or Fraternity involvement) have always resented and bullied people who take school seriously.
Well then there was HOA board member lady that threw out my property manager and myself out of the meeting right after she turned to me and asked if “Do you speak English?”
And then the two of us giving the property manager a shitstorm for the next month.

Yeah, I know. I was younger, and much more hot tempered back then. Call is Angry Asian. San Diego doesn’t scare me, especially Carmel Valley doesn’t scare me, parts of L.A. well that’s completely different…….
But in my older years, I’m definitely much more chilled….
June 21, 2021 at 8:51 PM #822225CoronitaParticipant..And then there was the incident of this Karen in Carmel valley that backend into my mom who was stationary, and then seeing she was asian and probably thinking she was an FOB starts screaming and yelling at my mom and blaming her and saying you can’t speak english, blah blah blah.
My mom, of course, being having her law roots and generally a very argumentative woman that no one in the family can ever win an argument with… goes postal on the lady who suddenly shuts up…
The reason why I say this is racism is because this is how it was throughout a lot of asian’s life. Some people don’t care. Some of us do. Similar to some people don’t mind getting kicked around at work by crappy bosses and their biases and put up with it for job stability and security. Some of us do and leave and find a better place where we are respected more as equals, even if it takes a couple of times to find a place where we’re treated better. Like I said, a person who spends 2 years at different companies working on a leading edge project is a lot better off than someone stuck 4 years working at a dinosaur company working on a system trying to send email, despite the architect spending 4 days putting a prototype together that demonstrates the same thing could be done with something like ConstantContact …so overpriced engineers could be reallocated to doing things more important than managing an internal marketing email system that takes 2 months do to 1 email template…but instead on new stuff, like mobile technology
…Of course when prototypes were done, ahole technically incompetent architect steals idea and project while new architect is on medical leave and sticks new architect on old piece-of-shit email system thinking new architect don’t mind taking shit…. while old architect works on new architecture that new architect created …but eventually fucks it completely up anyway, after new architect gives middle finger to old company and leaves for a new job with a new bigger role and a 25% salary bump + stock grants and leaves big heap of train wreck behind…
You’re only worth as much as you’re willing to give yourself any self respect, when no one else is willing to give it to you. And it’s a great motivator to focus on what I guess these newer iGeneration kids called “a side hustle”…which is why I love investing and personal finance..You see it really makes pretty good sense… Some people who focus their time on trying to move up, get a bigger role in a corporate ladder, and in doing so obtain greater financial independence from a eventually larger comp package. Others, like one of my coworkers, have no desire to do that, so they just put in the bare minimum to get a paycheck to pay the bills and then spends most of their time working on something else (that coworker was buying and selling real estate and running his own brokerage firm from within the company we were working at, lol. He’s ridiculously wealthy now and didn’t care when he got laid off)…. Either way works fine..Me I try to do a little of both, so that I get 2 ways of building my empire…The worst those that stay at a job, don’t try to move up the ladder and don’t work on a side hustle either…I call that purgatory…
June 21, 2021 at 9:04 PM #822226AnonymousGuestWell flu you just have a chip on your shoulder in my opinion. You are successful and financially better off than 99.x% of Americans. If those examples of “racism” you are providing is the worst things that have happened to you, then you’ve had a pretty good life. You don’t think white people get screwed by D-bag office politics? And those other examples of racial insults are pretty benign in the scheme of things. The same Karen that insulted you by asking you if you speak English is just as likely to insult myself or other non-Asians that they don’t like or agree with in some other way. D-bags will be D-bags and Karens will be Karens. But I’m tired of people throwing out the Racism word all the time. It is tired and overused.

I dont know, i guess one could call it a chip on the shoulder. i view it as motivation to self improve. I like proving people wrong and winning. I dont like to like to settle and go with the flow and pick up a participation trophy for just showing up. But call it what you want, bias, unconscious bias, stereotypes, they exist. And like i said, best way to combat it is not to ask government to effect policy. that doesnt work..The best thing to do is dont support the people that dont support you.
I dont see why this is so difficult for some people to understand. Its different if someone is content with going with the flow, even if they are stuck in neutral at a job. Some people dont care. Like my ex coworker that didnt care about his work since he was running his real estate business which was considerably more lucrative. But then occasionally i run into people who arent happy with where they are at financially but at the same time dont want to move onto better opportunity elsewhere. I dont get it.

Allow me to explain.
My dad was at the same sales job for 50 years and didn’t like it much. His dad started the business.
I recall he once talked about possibly moving from the east coast to SD to sell real estate in SD in the 80s. Seriously. His buddy was doing well at it. Or maybe it was the 70s. I remember thinking, he’s not going.
Might’ve been a different life. Escape the past. But he was locked in. He had his routine. Rent controlled apt. Knew the deal. Friends. Played handball, then paddlball just down the street. Serious roots.
In reality I don’t think he could’ve left. I bet he would’ve been happier leaving. In some ways.
Good salesman. Engaging. Genuine. Thoughtful.
Intrigued by people. Others found him funny. Not me. But other people.I think roots do keep people in place.
I myself am currently considering moving for a potential opportunity.
The prospect of change scares scaredyclassic.
Even though it could be great. It could be bad.
“My boy was just like me, yeah. He’d grown up just like me. And the cats in the cradle and the silver spoon, little boy blue and the man I n the moon. When you coming home son I don’t know when but we’ll get together then dad you know we’ll have a good time then.”
When I think of the tales of my bold immigrant ancestors, I wonder, wtf happened to us…I wonder if they’d be proud, disgusted or amazed with me. I doubt seriously they’d have any time or sympathy for my bs. I do feel grateful for their past risk taking and successes. Those wild hardworking, tough old humans. Where would I be without their fearless intrepid search for a better life.
Certainly not in existence I’ll tell you that.
Thank you, ancestors.
PS they definitely thought people were out to get the Jews. Maybe some fear and disgust with others does spur us to greater success.

And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with this. Like I said, different strokes for different folks and some people like to remain in a cushy environment and tolerate more things, that’s all good too. I’ll also offer the following perspective. Our ancestors, who were immigrants, probably had a lot less opportunity and could take a lot less risk.
Well, unless they came here totally poor, and then in that case, there was nothing to lose and they could take a lot of risk since there was few better options…
That’s why often times a lot of the more studious immigrants that came here with a white collared corporate job did ok…But in contrast a lot of poor immigrants that came her with much more limited opportunities and didn’t have these cushy jobs had to fight a lot harder to build a foundation and ended up taking a lot more risk…That’s why some of these immigrants, who opened a cleaning service, convenience store, laundrymat, restaurant etc, in the end, ended up doing as well if not better those those that took it easy at that corporate job. Those of these that are descendants have a much more secure foundation, so we can afford to take more risk.
I’d like think I’m bettering my parents and building a larger empire.
June 22, 2021 at 11:45 AM #822230scaredyclassicParticipanti think my ancestors would just want me to have a good time and be happy. They probably would think Im ridiculous for worrying so much. You’re alive, they’d say. Stop fretting.
I imagine they’d want to cook for me and buy me something.
I’d say, relax, let me get up and make you some tea. You’ve done so much already. Thank you.
I’d have so many questions

Funny, I get shet all the time. “Why do you have to have 4 cars. Why not get rid of 2 of them….”
Also, what I get a lot. Why are you spending time working on your car, either pay to get the work done or get rid of them…
June 22, 2021 at 1:24 PM #822233scaredyclassicParticipantim thinking more of the 1870s ancestors. the tailors. short, fearless people. they dont even know about cars. inflations definitely been startling since 1870.
I bet we’d have a lot in common. the people from the 1700s, probably less in common. I kind of picture conversation with people from the 1600s being really difficult. even with the translators. i just dont know if we’d have that much in common. I think 1870s though, we could click.

Wouldn’t it be cheaper to just go live in Alaska wilderness? At least it’ll be warmer there. -
