And doubly confounding that the markets are OK today. So far. This is exactly why I could never be a day trader. Extremely hard to figure out what the markets will do next.

I think the markets are that fast, and global.
The panic started up about 6PM PST yesterday, when, IMHO, CNN and other major news outlets, weren’t calling states like MI, PA for Hillary.
That’s why futures cratered over night. They by the time Japan got to mid-day, they were already bargain hunting.

pretty much the opposite of whatever it seems it must do.
November 9, 2016 at 7:30 AM #803298CoronitaParticipantAN and I had a talk and I sort of agree with him. I’m willing to give Trump a chance.
Maybe he won’t actually do most of the things he says he’s going to do.
We got what we got, and let’s see where we take it.Peace.
November 9, 2016 at 7:31 AM #803301scaredyclassicParticipantstill, in the uncertainty that follows over the next few months, it wouldnt take a huge percentage flow of money to gold to make the price really soar. nothing’s a sure thing…but it seems more likely than not gold’s not going to crater in next few months.

im fine with trump. really, you cannot blame the dude for trying to win. i just worry about the nation’s unhappiness. the system is obviously not working for people, bbecause they jettisoned business as usual. maybe this is the start of something good. a new beginning. But i doubt it. i think wealth inequities will only ramp up moving forward, and rage and anger will continue to be growth industries.
in general, disappointment will reign king… america will never be great again, but if we could massively lower our expectations, we could not want to go on shooting rampages or invade other countries and maybe be content.

Im with you scaredy.
I’m done caring about ’em deplorables. They got who they wanted. If their lives don’t get better, they have nobody but themselves to blame.
Garrison Keillor wrote a good article.

Being an elitist liberal myself, i love him. My dad loved him. I’ve read most of his books. he makes me laugh and cry. I agree with his article.

Your post reminds me of a book I have been perusing but not yet committed to read because is seems painful.

Being a contrarian myself, I feel today was a great day to be in the market. Right now everyone is worried about things going bad, which made me finally sell off my remaining gold and silver.
November 9, 2016 at 10:45 AM #803322FlyerInHiGuestFlu was right that there as a good chance of Trump winning.
Flu was also right that the country is full of ’em folks who would support Trump.
Shovelor is right the we are lucky to live in California.

This was another Hope and Change election. If people wanted the status quo Hillary would have won in a landslide.
I think this article sort of demonstrates why Hillary Clinton lost. Middle class america that is struggling has a real problem with elitists. I think people are just pushing back against that elitist tone even if some of those policies proposed by the elitists would benefit them.
Just look at how badly most of our predictions were in this thread. We don’t live in swing states and we don’t communicate with the middle class blue collar voter. We honestly just don’t understand how these people think or what concerns they have. If you want to pursue a liberal progressive policy you need to do it without the elitist vibe. If not I think you’ll continue to see the push back we saw last night.

Agree to giving peace a chance. I would hope he doesn’t move things too far to the right because that would only provoke a violent pendulum swing to the left and us moderates would not like that either.

Great post , People who voted out Hillary care more about family and faith and less about hubris filled politics. Get rid of the hubris, quit talking down , and people might listen again. That said, so many being broke and wanting solutions is a big part of it. Probably a false hope and change election, like you say…but you can’t blame people for wanting to try something new.
