I am predicting Electirc Cars to be main stream by 2010 or 2011.
Also Solar Power in a big way within 10 years.
All we really need to get a good start on Mass transit is a decent bus service along the 15 and 5 freeways, that both also hit the train stations in Ocean side and Escondido .

An article I read talked about the insurance issue about Aptera, saying it is classified as motorcycle and has got insurance permission in California.
Another hot topic is PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid). My favorite company Fisker Auto is building the first PHEV car and claimed to mass produce it in 2010. But I didn’t see Fisker Karma in the X Prize contender list.
http://www.fiskerautomotive.com/A public company QTWW is building the powertrain system for Fisker Karma.

June 10, 2008 at 12:20 PM #220860UCGalParticipantI’ve been following several EV’s that might hit the market soon.
There’s the Zap X
http://www.zapworld.com/zap-x-crossoverAnd the Zap Alias
http://www.zapworld.com/electric-vehicles/electric-cars/zap-alias
(the price on this one is interesting. The Fisker Karma that someone else mentioned.
http://www.fiskerautomotive.com/The non-vaporware Tesla. (But you need to be wealthy to afford it.)
http://www.teslamotors.com/Toyota is still talking about a plug in prius – but it’s date seems to keep moving out.
I have a hybrid, but at some point in the next several years we’ll need to replace my husbands old truck with something that will fit a family of 4. We’re hoping to get a plug in hybrid or full blown EV.
