Wow! I got even more amusement out of this than the zombie thread. My favorite part was FormerSanDiegan offering to sell his house to Scruffy for a 5% discount off 2007 prices.
Nor-La-Temcu-SD-GUY definitely called it with “But, at the same time I think that the U.S. goverment knows there is no way it (we) can afford a serious recession so there will be continuous heroic efforts to avoid any serious economic slow down.”

February 12, 2010 at 11:49 AM #512445briansd1GuestDidn’t read everything, but that was fun.
I remember, during the boom, people telling me that old money was made in real estate, and that property was a sure way to riches — buy and hold they said (problem is you can’t hold when you’re leveraged to the eyeballs and face negative cash flows).
I recently read an article that the old real estate families of New York, who got outbid and sat out the bubble, are now back with the wherewithal to complete deals.
Sure, fortunes were made in real estate, but only those with wherewithal and the experience to recognize business cycles survive and thrive for generations.

It would be more humorous if we weren’t surrounded by the economic wreckage caused by the scruffydogs of the world, but such is life.
Sometimes I hate being right 🙂
