It is a tough season to buy fire insurance. Last spring I had several companies that were willing to insure us, but then I waited to long, fire season hit and everyone of them said we are no longer offering insurance in your area. I ended up finding one company that would do it but I was on the phone all day getting rejected.
There will be one that will insure you but it will not be easy to find in August-October. Once you find one… jump on it. It is supposed to be one of the worst fire seasons ever.August 7, 2009 at 8:59 AM #442581propertysearchaddictionParticipantIt is a tough season to buy fire insurance. We have come to the realization that getting fire insurance in these areas will be very tough, but not impossible and of course costly. We will just have to make sure to factor these expenses (and hastle) into the cost of ownership for canyon areas. Otherwise we will have to greatly limit our search parameters.

From experience many canyon homes are grandfathered in so you may need to get a few names before you find one who will carry.
