I’m reminded of that wonderfully benign movie by Taiwanese director Ang Lee, with it’s simplistically descriptive title Eat, Drink, Man, Women, a paraphrase for the middle class preoccupation on a island still considered by China as a part of the People’s Republic. Yet if Ang Lee’s creativity were to cross the Taiwan Straits, the film’s title would morph into something along the lines of Greed, Real Estate, Madness, Divorce. This is what home ownership has become.
