GuestHe did claim that he’s going to cut spending also, but he needs to provide more specifics before I will be convinced.

ParticipantI doubt this is going to pass.
I’m personally torn. I think it’s a tough situation with no easy answers. So the big open question is not if the Brown plan is perfect, it’s clearly not, but if it ends up being the best idea out there or if something better comes along.

I don’t get the point of increasing taxes if we don’t cut spending. And CA is a bloated as a porky pig.Thoughts?[/quote]
You don’t call the elimination of redevelopment districts and the billions of tax dollars they suck down a spending cut?

You have a whole local administration that cozies up to and subsidizes developers and their profits.
Take Downtown SD. Maybe, at one point, we needed Horton Plaza developed. But now, the CCDC has outlived it’s usefulness. Just let developers build condos and offices without all the restrictions on parking, setback, etc.. and we’ll have a vibrant downtown thanks to organic growth.

ParticipantI’m not torn. They need to CUT THE BUDGET including CUT THE EMPLOYEE/UNION BENEFITS ESPECIALLY PENSIONS. There, I’m through yelling. Brown is devising all kinds of threats that are devious attempts to coerce us into voting for more taxes. Time for moonbeam to go back to the abbey!!

If they are eliminating things from the budget for things that were over-budgeted the future, then it isn’t really a cut. To be a cut, you have to spend less next year than you did last year.
So, if you spent $100 last year, and next year to plan on spending $150, then you change your mind and only spend $120, you don’t get to call it a $30 cut. That is a $20 spending increase.

And remember this when you hear people say that Obama is “cutting” defense spending:

That’s the biggest issue in a nutshell.
I heard Gov. Brown on kfi this morning, and he defended the abuses by California Public Employee Unions to the bitter end.
Breaking California Public Employee unions is not going to be easy, but please for the future of California and for the sake of Justice we have to keep beating this drum.
Don’t give up!
Don’t cave in to the fear supplied by the public employee unions!
Justice will Prevail!!
