Hey, Lindi, does that mean you did your survey? Where are we supposed to post our results?
August 15, 2006 at 8:54 AM #31932lindismithParticipantHi PS,
I only got to ask the 4 people I was with. Naturally after I asked them, we got into an RE discussion. I was surprised at how much they all knew about the market. They were even using phrases like, “atm housing machine”! They were very aware. They said they got all their info from friends, and some news reports. These people are all immigrants like me though, and all in business for themselves. In some ways I think we are more prone to seek out information, and think more critically than regular folks, because we all came here for opportunity. I would not classify them as sheeple.
Anyway, all 4 said RE was not a good buy in 1 year, but may be a good buy in 5 years.
VCJim said to post the survey results in that thread. I’m waiting until I have my 10 responses before posting.
BTW, one had just closed escrow on a condo in Phoenix. He said he got a good deal, and felt comfortable with the investment because the rent was covering his mortgage, and he had no problem renting it. He did not use any type of risky loan either. He said he wanted to hold onto it for 10-15 years, perhaps retire to it.
August 15, 2006 at 11:52 AM #31961VCJIMParticipantWhat category do you think I should put it under? Housing?
August 15, 2006 at 12:12 PM #31965lindismithParticipantYes, that or Buying and Selling. I don’t think it makes much difference in this case.
August 16, 2006 at 8:17 AM #32015speedingpulletParticipantI’ve only managed three so far:
one – ‘soft landing’
two – ‘sort of soft landing, but not really sure’
three – ‘yikes!’OK, the last one was influenced..I’d directed him towards Piggintons the day before!
And, of course, this is L.A…
August 17, 2006 at 7:08 AM #32128barnaby33ParticipantYou can’t read piggington if you’re from LA, go get your own bubble blog!
Josh
August 17, 2006 at 9:39 AM #32153speedingpulletParticipantAwww…please?
Wierdly enough, there doesn’t seem to be a blog that deals with the northern part of LA/Westside/Sth SF Valley.
Bearmaster’s fine South Beaches Blog
http://sbbeachbubble.blogspot.com/
is very good, but still doesn’t cover all the areas I’m interested in. So, as long as I behave myself, can I stay please, please?
Ok, I could start my own blog, but I have neither the expertise nor the time to do it myself.
August 17, 2006 at 10:08 AM #32162lindismithParticipantSpeeding, I love your posts, so just continue to log in with us everyday.
LA/SD/OC, it’s all one big metropolis anyway.
August 17, 2006 at 10:59 AM #32173speedingpulletParticipantThanks lindismith!
I’m also of the opinion that this is definately a SoCal (if not West/East/National) phenomenon. While San Diego has its own unique style of ‘bubble’, its not that far away, and is undoubtedly the forerunner of how things will pan out here in LaLaLand.
I’m keeping an eye on a lot of different SHRs in quite a wide area of Westside/Topanga/South SF Valley and am starting to see quite a few reductions.
Still, i get a giggle out of stuff, like this little beauty:
built – 1902
900 sq ft
1900 ft lot
LP – $949K
DOM 2OK, it is West Hollywood..but I’ll still keep it my ‘saved houses’ on Zip, just to see how it goes..
August 18, 2006 at 1:31 AM #32301VCJIMParticipantSpeeding, despite being in Ventura County and making some particularly *boneheaded* posts, I still seem to be accepted here. All us outsiders just have to end each post with:
“LONG LIVE SAN DIEGO!”
August 18, 2006 at 1:33 AM #32302VCJIMParticipantI will start a new thread for the survey tomorrow. I haven’t done many, but the first guy tried to sell me his house when I asked what he thought of real estate investments!
August 18, 2006 at 8:57 AM #32318The-ShovelerParticipantNor_LA-Temcu-SD-Guy
Hey I lived in Valencia (owned a house), Bought a Mc-Manson
in Temecula in 2002 (thought Valencia was way overpriced in 2002), somehow managed to hold onto the Valencia house until December 2004, sold it (paid for my Mc-Manson and then some) and have been waiting for SD to crash (or Ventura maybe) to buy something there, will not sell the Temecula house (got in cheap I think) So you can be a North LA, SD guy.I still work in North L.A. (work at home some, stay at a friends during the week)
August 18, 2006 at 2:29 PM #32349speedingpulletParticipantAh, mate, yer ‘avin a giraffe…..as they say down in Sarf London
After noticing this bijou residence yesterday and laughing, the sellers have decided to keep me in hysterics today as well:
MLS# 06-122395
built – 1902
900 sq ft
1900 ft lot
LP – $949K
DOM 2So, looking on Zip this morning, I notice the above has had a price INCREASE!
Yes, this house, sitting on a lot smaller than most SFRs, after 3 whole days on the maket is now listed at a cool $999,000.
That’s over $1,000 a square foot in real money.
This one is a total keeper.
August 18, 2006 at 2:47 PM #32352VCJIMParticipantI think everyone on Piggington’s should put in a $1 offer on this house, see how the sellers like that.
