Family in Chengdu?

We have a few Chinese posters here. Are your relatives affected by the earthquake? Things like this always seem to happen “somewhere else” but it may only be a matter of time before one hits us here.

I kept in touch with a Chinese panda tour guide in Chengdu and I haven’t heard from her in a while. I think she’s probably OK and maybe communications are down. That’s where the epicenter was. Estimates are 10,000 people dead so far.

Fortunately not. My family's relatives were mostly from Taiwan, so they just need to worry about typhoons. My wife's side is predominately around Shanghai.

Makes one stop and think about how fragile the world really is. Losing money, bankruptcy, bad speculation, bad risk taking one thing. You can recover from that. Getting killed mother nature isn't exactly something you can control. Despite how fcked up the economy might people, there are always people in elsewhere that have it worse.
