investor – I have not read the book (and I’ve got too much going on to read it – maybe someday when/if I retire).
As I said way back, I did watch Money Masters. I found it an interesting take on history and economics and government. True or not. I tend to think it’s true.
Someone told me the general public can’t be told the truth. There would be anarchy. So I always think of that famous movie line, “You can’t handle the truth.” And some truths are just too horrible to believe it’s true. Much easier to think people are “conspiracy theorists.”
In any case, I have don’t have any better info, nor do I have answers. I only have questions, one which I posed earlier. What can we do about it?
Second what JP said.
I have the book, but haven’t had the time for anything but a cursory skimming. I tend to lean on the side of conspiracy theorists because when I try to rationalize everything as a series of “unfortunate, unpredictable accidents” it doesn’t compute. When I look at the system as a way to take from the masses, and grow wealth at the very top, everything suddenly fits together like a puzzle.
Who knows? We can only guess, because the vast majority of us will never be privy to the goings on in the most elite circles. Personally, it makes perfectly good sense to think that those who passionately crave power and money will never be satisfied with what they have at any given point in time. It’s hard to think they would stop trying to accumulate more wealth and power just because the “little people” at the bottom are suffering. They just don’t care about such trivial things.

June 4, 2010 at 6:31 AM #559451jpinpbParticipantCAR – It’s not just “unfortunate, unpredictable accidents.” It’s more like “complex, circumstantial coincidences” that get convoluted when you try to explain individually each one. I have to agree that power at the top is addicting and stopping is not what happens. More like it feeds on itself, like any addiction.
