I found most interesting the information about what the ingestion of various chemicals does to the brain. I also think that there will be various food riots in the near future. The price of food continues to rise and eventually supplies will be limited, people who do not have adequate supplies will take matters into their own hands when government fails to provide.

I think he would take umbrage to claims the quality of care in other countries is close to what we have here.

Your friend is lucky. I wish I could live in Thailand and earn a stateside salary at the same time.
It’s all relative, but for the same amount of money, the quality of care in Thailand is better than in USA. We pay a boatload more for just marginally better care.
Thailand has great medical tourism for cosmetic surgery, dental implants, laser dermabrasion, liposuction and the like. I know people who have been to Thailand for elective treatment and they are very happy.
Of course, for the most high-tech, American medical care is best. But for day-to-day medical care, our services suck.
