How is jail time going to help her if she has a mental disorder? She should be institutionalized in a psychiatric facility where she can get professional help and kept away from the public.

She did not plead insanity as a defense. I think most anyone who abuses children has mental issues. But absent a finding that they are not guilty by reason of insanity, they must be punished for their criminal behavior.
Or, we can just place everyone who abuses, rapes, molests, or kills children into a psychiatric facility. Because we want to help those poor folks get better.
