Spend the money instead on a new gas dryer. It’ll cost you in the same ballpark as the electrical work and will save you a couple hundred bucks a year in utility bills.
Ditto that.
October 13, 2010 at 8:57 AM #618019AKParticipantI’m with the “buy a new dryer” crowd.
(Definitely sell or give away the old one. No, you’ll never use it again. My parents bought an electric dryer to replace the old gas one when the family moved back in 1975. The old one sat around in the garage for three decades until I got stuck moving it down to the basement one Thanksgiving.)

October 13, 2010 at 9:02 AM #618342CoronitaParticipantYou can just paper clip two 110V outlets and get 220V… I’M KIDDING….DON’T TRY THAT, (IT WON’T WORK ON AC) …
Just get a new gas dryer. I found that they tend to be more efficient. Also, you might as well tell advantage of the cash for appliances rebates going on right now.. Total cost much lower than trying to retrofit a 220V plug into your laundry room. Plus you get a new appliance that probably is much more efficient…

Yes, I know the decision…Your old dryer is probably just fine and has lastest years without a problem…Well, we live in a throwaway society now…Anything in the interest of economic recovery…So might as well take advantage of these appliance bailouts…
