THIS AMERICAN LIFE, last week’s show CREEPING APOCALYPSE, pretty interesting reporting on Pacifica, northern CA coastal town, and coastal property issues. Sea walls, catastrophes, politics, money, re agents, all pretty interesting. Should be a much more widespread issue in the next 10 to 20 years. It’s part 2 of the show.

Part 1 about the scary progression of fishing reports on local radio was equally freaky.

SD will likely do better due to population density allowing for sea walls to be economically effective, but sea walls destroy beaches…so things could look different in the future.

it sure doesn’t seem fair for Temecula or inland SD tax dollars to subsidize sea walls to save multimillion dollar coastal properties or towns.

Fortunately we have ira glass for company to sort through these thorny issues.

I Never know quite what to believe about sea level rise.
I think the sort of Official number now is 1 foot in the next 30 years or so.

But I keep seeing these scary articles about Antarctic ICE shelves collapsing etc.. acceleration of this and that.

IMO just plan on 5 tp 10 foot rise over the next 20 years then don’t buy anything unless it 20-30 foot above that (just kidding sort of).
