ParticipantDumb question… instead of building the Taj Mahal of Public Libraries (which is what this thing looks to be), why not use only private funds to build a smaller, simpler public library? I’m betting this project was dreamed up during the Bubble Years and never got downsized for reality.

I guess the Padres and Chargers are donating enough to keep it operating for many years.
Who wants to go downtown to go to the library anyway? Go digitial, or build 30x $1M dollar libraries in the neighborhoods.
I hope it has granite counter tops.
