ParticipantDo not tell her you cooked the fish, she is too young. I did a similar switch one time and my kid figured it out, but he was about 8. She is one smart kid. What good would it do for her to know they are dead and then you get into a discussion of death. Stick to the they are sick explanation until she forgets about it, but with that smart a kid you are not going to be able to do that trick again. She is already on to you.

Participant
… Also, petsmart gave me the fish after I told them the heater I bought from them killed by daughter’s fishes in the tank….
Smooth move, flu. Most people would have been too caught up in the emotions of the situation to recognize such a lucrative opportunity.
…So last week was fun… I went all around town looking for beta that looked almost identical to the ones my girl had before I cooked them. Ended up finding them at petsmart, though they look smaller and slightly different color…..Daughter noticed the fish were slightly smaller, and asked me about why are they smaller. I said, I don’t know, perhaps they are a little sick…
That’s the problem with being smarter than the average bear: Genetics plays cruel tricks on you, and ensures that you have offspring who are similarly well-endowed with cerebral tissue. Her teens should an interesting period…
