The neighborhood over on Ramsey is actually pretty nice – I have good friends who lived on Finsen until very recently – they regret leaving their neighbors behind. Said it was the best neighborhood and set of neighbors they’ve ever had.
The power line showing in the last picture of the Ramsey house is just normal distribution lines. It’s an older neighborhood that still has above ground lines. They’ve been converting South UC to underground lines – but there are pockets (including my street) that still have above ground lines.
CDMA Eng – I scoop poop and my dog is friendly… No worries there. LOL.
AN – not sure why UC high doesn’t score as well. The 3 elementary schools all score ok – Spreckels is a little lower… probably because it’s a magnet school for spanish language – so a lot more english language learners from lower socio economic background. I’m actually concerned about the performance of Standley Middles school and UCHS. May have to choice into Mira Mesa HS.

Scarlett asked this question, not me :-). But I concur with the assessment. It’s all about racial demographics. I don’t think English learner and social economic background play as much of a role in the total API. Lets take a couple of schools as an example.
Spreckels Elementary – Total API = 851:
Hispanic or Latino 753
White 925
Socioeconomically Disadvantaged 211 758
English Learners 752Mason Elementary – Total API = 868:
Asian 919
Filipino 907
Hispanic or Latino 797
White 875
Two or More Races 0 No
Socioeconomically Disadvantaged 825
English Learners 832As you can see, both the Socioeconomically Disadvantaged and English Learners in Spreckels perform about the same as the Hispanic group. While the Socioeconomically Disadvantaged and Eglish Learners in Mason perform better than the Hispanic group. The question then is, what are the races of the Socioeconomically Disadvantaged and Eglish Learners in the two schools. But, if you don’t fall into those two categories, then you shouldn’t care about the API of those students. Same with the different racial subgroup as well.
If you take a look at a lot of the schools that score a 10 on their API, most of them don’t have enough of a Hispanic population to count their API score. If you remove the API score of a lot of the schools that score an 8 or 9, you’ll see that they’re probably a 10 school as well.

Thank you UCGal for your comments about the neighborhood.
About the schools. It seems that one may be able to get better schools, better price and newer homes in MM than in UC. The only tradeoff is a commute time, but not bad (if in West MM) – we are NOT talking Carlsbad commute!
The lower scores – could it be because many people retire there so not much fresh population with kids moves in – therefore they’d bus a lot more kids in, many English-second-language?
