Well…as a person with kids and no dogs, there’s nothing worse than dog owners who refuse to clean up after their dogs…and the kids end up stepping or rolling in dog poop. Also, there are liability issues with dogs potentially biting kids or jumping all over them.
That being said, La Costa Canyon park (located near Cadencia and La Costa) has a fenced-off area near the back with signs all over that say “no dogs”, but it’s “understood” that it’s probably for liability reasons, and there is a very active group of dog owners who go there regularly.
Hope you find a good rental (don’t overpay!!!), and enjoy the neighborhood! π

According to SanDiegoPet.com, Carlsbad does not allow dogs at ANY parks. I don’t know why…seems a bit harsh to me.
However, I bet you can find some great trails around C-Bad and don’t forget Dog Beach in Del Mar, which is arguably the most fun for dogs and owners. There must be some parks around CBad that “look the other way.”
Might want to just stay in S.Ranch and commute for a while and let homes get cheaper…

September 30, 2008 at 4:07 PM #278249CBadParticipantSorry, I have to echo the dog and kiddo thing comment. Hey, if all dog owners were respectful I’d have no problem with dogs being around (same can be said for parents & human children). But there are so many dog owners here that ignore the signs and let their dogs run free without a leash and don’t pick up their crap. I can think of two prime places in particular but you know I don’t want to advertise where they are! The one place this huge dog ran up and knocked me and my then 1-year-old daughter down (while I was 5 months pregnant) and the owner just giggled (showed up about 2 minutes later, not watching the dog) and said the typical, “oh he’s friendly, he just wants to play.” Um, wtf? I had a black and blue mark and bleeding scratches from that incident. Now that my kids are somewhat older there are certain places where we are dodging dirty dogs jumping up on them. I just don’t get it? I’ve been a dog owner most of my life (not currently) and I’d never let my dog run around and jump up on strangers.
Anyway, I don’t want to make this post a total drag. There is a dog park on Carlsbad Village Dr. just East of El Camino Real. My friend takes her dogs there every week and likes it.
