It’s a lot more self sustaining to live in a Europe village then American suburbia.
The American suburbs, while in “normal times” little oasis of quiet, are highly dependent on the global supply chain. An interruption in the supply chain will cause the death of the American suburb.
In an Italian village, you can much more easily bike around town and survive on the local agriculture. Life will still go on.
