Blackstone Group to acquire Equity Office Properties Trust

Two observations:

1. Sam Zell (largest owner of EOPT stock) just “rang the bell” for the top in the commercial real estate business for this cycle (much like the Sandlers did for the S&L industry when they announced the sale of Golden West to Wachovia several months back);

2. Blackstone (unintentionally) rang the bell for the top in the the private equity business for this cycle by making a huge, ridiculously-priced acquisition that just reiterates that there’s way too much liquidity floating around in this world, and particularly in private equity.
