Well, gold is up since yesterday when I bought at $1270. I guess people don’t like the idea of Trump possibly being president. 🙂
Damn, should have bought more…..
How do you know for sure what you’re buying is legit? The latest great invention coming out of china is “fake” gold (a mixture of gold and other alloy) that’s practically undetectable without melting it down first.

So I am only buying from a reputable dealer (apmex) and I am only buying newly minted 2016 coins/bullion that dealers get directly from the mint authorities.
It is unlikely a large reputable dealer will intentionally try to sell a fake. It would crush their reputation. So the possibility of a fake would be if you bought a coin that was not new that somehow slipped through the dealers inspection when it was bought or sold.
So I will avoid second hand coins (or those designated as “random year” coins/bullion.)
And I’ll make a trip to a local dealer to do a check every so often
As a fallback, there is eBay protection and PayPal protection, and my AMEX protection.
Well, that didn’t take long to escalate quickly. Spot is up $25 today alone. Something spooked people…
