Grow or die. We will never be LA nor do we want to be straw boy! We know growth is inevitable. Would you rather growth in poverty and homeless or growth in high paying jobs and prosperity? We are invested in SD in every way not temporary visitors with no skin in the game. We want the best for the place we love
March 25, 2022 at 10:51 AM #824638anParticipantWe will never be LA and I don’t want us to. Traffic is the downside of growth, but the upside is food, diversity, entertainment, and opportunity (quantity of jobs, quality of jobs, and higher paying jobs).
Also, the reason I love to live here is the weather and it won’t be affected by growth. So, I welcome it wholeheartedly.

Quaint San Diego, where your family knew every family in town (most of whom are still here) was a great way to grow up, but the world changes, life moves forward, and expands into realms of even greater possibilities, and that’s the way life should be.
As more and more companies have chosen San Diego, and employees have followed, San Diego has naturally evolved into a place where many people want to live. Now, it seems, people from near and far are discovering all our city has to offer and are competing to relocate here.
Having been to most cities around the world, I agree that many cities have much to offer, but I don’t believe most of us want San Diego to become those cities for a wide varieties of reasons. Most of us can easily move to any city of our choice, and/or have homes in other locations if we so desire, so that’s not really a concern.
Bottom line is, if people don’t care for San Diego, they are free to move, and, hopefully, they will be much happier in their new location. Many have moved, and regret it, others have moved, and love where they are. It’s all a matter of choice.

La Jolla is not a city… Are you a Bird Rockian or La Jolla Farmian?March 25, 2022 at 11:06 AM #824641flyerParticipantYou are right. Old habit from those who lived there who used La Jolla, CA on their mail. We were La Jolla Country Clubian’s:)
March 25, 2022 at 11:06 AM #824642sdrealtorParticipantHe’s a San Diegan!
Flyer one of my best friends grew up on corner of Paseo Del Ocaso and Camino Del Oro. House still there basically as it was since the view corridor restricts building up

Sounds like many on here (definitely sdr) want San Diego to be LA and Bay Area. The reason San Diego is (or was) so desirable is it is NOT LA or Bay Area.
Is it just so your real estate holdings go up in value? I can’t think of any other benefit to all the growth.
And in the end, San Diego will ALWAYS be second or third fiddle to those cities, from a prestige point of view. You really want to compare UCSD and USD to UCLA and USC? And Sports and entertainment of LA compared to what little San Diego has?
What is wrong with having better jobs , better pay, better schools, and seeing having home prices increase?
You’re wrong about UCSD at least in terms of engineering. Pretty high up there now. Irwin Jacobs helped transform that early on. Also the medical capabilities at UCSD is very good.

UCSD is already on par with UCLA as a medical research university if not ahead and climbing rapidly. Already well beyond USC

Does it really matter? As long as we keep on growing like crazy, who the hell cares what LA or SF does?March 25, 2022 at 11:25 AM #824647anParticipant.

But you already have those things in LA and Bay Area. If that is what you want, move to those places. Why would you want that here? Is San Diego really lacking for anything at this point?
Again, as good a school as USCD is, it is not particularly prestigious on a National or International level. Never will be compared with UCLA or Cal. Can you name one famous alumni? Mike Judge, is the only one I can think of, he is brilliant!March 25, 2022 at 1:33 PM #824651sdrealtorParticipant

I curious why everyone is cheerleading so much growth in San Diego. It is now World renowned and academically on its way to passing UCLA some day
