ASI inspection for A/C unit. Inrush limiter?

Hi,

Haven’t had the AC unit checked in many years, so signed up for the ASI $70 inspection. They suggested two things:

1. Add a current inrush limiter to “get more life out of the motors”. AC system is over 10 years old.

2. Coolant at 50%, need to do a 2-day leak inspection with nitrogen.

Has anyone else encountered item 1? Not sure if they are just trying to do unnecessary work.

#1: Sticking anything in front of a motor that the motor wasn’t designed to use may well shorten motor life.

If you’re not tripping your breaker when the A/C starts, you don’t need an inrush limiter. If anything, if the inrush limiter makes the motor get up to speed slower, it may actually negatively affect its life.
