Govt unemployment dropped at a lower rate because the Fed/govt were trying to prevent unemployment from escalating even more…they were trying to save jobs, and had initiated programs to keep people working. If anything, that helped private sectors workers because govt workers (and the govt, itself) could still patronize their businesses.
How much worse would our economy be if the govt didn’t offset some of the job losses?
