With more and more men not wanting children I feel relieved I dodged that bullet. To many that would make me look bad. Reality is, you want to make a guy disappear, mention kids and they run w/their tails between their legs.
And the curse women have is it is for one, biological, b/c monthly a woman’s body creates hormones that send messages to your brain, “Must have baby!” I, of course, blame all this on Eve π if it weren’t her pushing that apple. But then how difficult was it for Adam to just say nope to dope and no apples either. I digress.
Once women overcome their hormones, they next have to deal w/societal pressures and all that other crap. Family values, tax deductions for having kids, family meals, mother’s day, blah, blah, blah. You’re not a woman if you don’t have kids. Pregnancy parking stalls. Pressure from the rest of the family. All the doting moms going on about how great motherhood is and all proud of their kids, etc. etc. etc. who won’t be happy unless you are as miserable as they are and stuck w/kids w/no more freedom and many sleepless nights, etc. etc.
And guys all anti kids, but go ahead and ask the dads if they had a chance to do it over again, would they. Surprisingly, I’ve had many say they love their kids and would do it again. Some even getting defensive if I say anything contrary to the family unit.
And then you have certain cultures that still believe in procreating, some tied to religion, some are macho men that still think women should be barefoot and pregnant and some seeing it as possessing their women and keeping them down and carrying the family name, etc.
There’s still men that want children. I find few younger men in San Diego that have that mentality, but I’ve traveled enough to know San Diego is not the rest of the world.

April 10, 2008 at 10:14 AM #184304CascaParticipantDave, thanks for your honesty. Truth has a very low value in our culture despite protestations otherwise. I’ve always liked Anthony Quinn’s formulation as Zorba the Greek. When questioned by the Englishman if he’d ever been married, he replies, “Wife, kids, house, divorce… the full treatment.”
There’s also the priceless Marion line, or words to the effect, “The government/judge says it’s OK, so it must be.” In the words of Tom Wolfe, “Be decent people.”

April 10, 2008 at 10:27 AM #184309Trojan4LifeParticipantMarion has a new “call sign”
In the Air Force, (which I am parting company with in 36 days, 6 hours and 8 minutes) you get a call sign based on some significant event you’ve been involved in (aka buffoonery), a prominant physical characteristic, or other such characteristic.
Marion, since I appear to be the only AF guy on this board (for at least another 36 days, 6 hours and 4 minutes now), I have decided to bequeath unto you the call sign of “Hornet.” You have earned the call sign based upon your propensity to stir up a hornet’s nest with your posts. Wear your new call sign with pride, it’s a badge of honor.
Oh, and for what it’s worth, it’s the boots and your personality. Do those boots knock?
