Are you talking about a Real Estate Minute Man type organization?
April 11, 2007 at 2:42 PM #49828lendingbubblecontinuesParticipantNot exactly.
Finding a way to tap in to an agent/loan guy/appraiser partnership that would enable us to buy properties using fictitious names/documents/etc. and documenting the entire experience to share with media outlets.
Kind of like the London real estate agent scandal of last year.
It is only a half-baked idea at this point but I am sure we can think of something cool that could even serve as a deterrent to fraudsters, if they knew someone might be out there trying to catch them in the act.
Kind of like a “mystery shopper”.
I’ve got the time and the interest so I’d be interested in hearing what others have to say, either online or offline.
April 11, 2007 at 2:52 PM #49831CarlsbadlivingParticipantWe just need to get Chris Hanson to be standing there in the living room once everyone shows to sign papers!
April 11, 2007 at 2:59 PM #49833lendingbubblecontinuesParticipantI don’t know Chris Hanson. Is he like Michael Turko?
April 11, 2007 at 3:05 PM #49834CarlsbadlivingParticipantChris Hanson is the Dateline NBC guy from those “To Catch a Predator” shows. Where they lure child predators into a teenage girls house.
Basically, you don’t ever want to walk into any room and see Chris Hanson standing there.
April 11, 2007 at 3:13 PM #49835aztecnologyParticipantWhy don’t you have a seat right there… π
April 11, 2007 at 3:52 PM #49838SD RealtorParticipantChris Hanson is great. Did you see him also on the Nigerian Email trackdown story? Sorry about the offtopic reply here.
April 11, 2007 at 7:09 PM #49872lendingbubblecontinuesParticipantSD R-
Whatever do you mean? The Nigerian e-mail thing is a scam?!?! Are you kidding me? Shoot. I just wired $50,000 overseas thinking I was about to become a multi-millionaire in return. Are you sure? C’mon. Say it ain’t so;-)
Don’t worry about being off-topic either. It was a somewhat manic topic to begin with, in my somewhat manic opinion.

April 11, 2007 at 8:49 PM #49881waiting hawkParticipantI’m crazy, ex military, and have a tone of guns. Where do I sign?
April 12, 2007 at 10:56 AM #49941RottedOakParticipantYou have to be very careful with this type of thing because you could easily end up being accused of fraud yourself. Shows like “Dateline” work with local authorities. If you set up your own “unauthorized” venture and approach an honest broker, etc. with some shady deal, they might report you to the police. Then you are left trying to explain to skeptical authorities that you didn’t really intend to rip anyone off.
April 12, 2007 at 12:37 PM #49951lendingbubblecontinuesParticipantYeah, that would suck…being accused of the very thing I am trying to expose.
April 12, 2007 at 10:36 PM #50004TemekuTParticipantwaiting hawk – all registered w/ permits to carry? π
