Ahh revenge……..how sweet it is!

We sold our house in Fontana (aka Fontucky) in Nov 03 for $300K. The market up there was JUST starting to catch fire back then and was a little behind the San Diego craziness.

I suffered thru 3 years of agony watching the value of that house peak at almost $600K, while simultaneously kicking myself for not pulling the trigger on buying in San Diego as soon as we moved here. One of my crowning achievements has been to withstand the constant pressure from my wife to buy in 2005/06.

I had to constantly remind her (and myself) that we were unwitting victims of terrible timing by selling when we did, but if we caved in to the pressure and bought in 2005/6 then we would just be amplifying our pain down the road……..Reminded me of the old saying *fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on ME!*

About 6 months ago the woman who bought our house listed it for sale by owner for $594K. The market in the inland empire has been in a virtual free-fall for the last year. She obviously was too slow to jump ship and I started to sadistically revel in her bad timing.

Well the circle of greed/stupidity is now complete as the house has just been listed with a realtor for $285K!!!!!

I feel soo relieved to have the *bad-timing* monkey finally off of MY back! I’m probably going to hell for being so giddy about the whole thing, but oh well…….I’ll buy Lucifer a beer when I get there!

I have a similar experience. Sold a little too early. Prices are no where close to what I sold for BUT, some places that I was pressured to buy – my crowning achievement to resist and sore spot of some heated discussion – has lost 100k in two years. I have that same glee and relief that I didn’t succomb to buying, but waiting patiently.

My hat is off to you for successfuly managing your marriage, last year we were innundated with weekly appearances of husbands catching knifes because their wives said so. All advice was lost on them and I can only imagine their fate since they rarely appear to let us know how it went (I bet they still read though). You did good, a couple nights on the couch is a small price to pay for not losing 10k a month, bravo.
