I’d like to chime in here about the value in renting right now in this market. I am originally from Illinois (three years ago). We rent a house in Encinitas, a block and a half from the beach. There is nothing like it.
It will take you time, real time to get to know the area. Rent and rent somewhere great. I am paying more for rent now than I would have in Chicago, but that is the market here. And I could never get this view in Chicago.
All the best on your decision!

November 7, 2007 at 12:05 AM #96623SD RealtorParticipantice maybe I missed it but if you do come out here, will you be working in North County? I assume so since you are considering that area. At any rate there is alot to choose from and while it does not hurt to look around when you are out here, I would absolutely echo the calls for renting first, getting to know the area, then buying. Not only will you get to really know the area, you will most likely save money.

That house is nice I admit but it’s definitely over priced and not in a great area. The drive to Carlsbad in the morning commute wouldn’t be pleasant either.
