Yikes – I think landlords can be choosy, as the rental market is very competitive now, from what I’ve been reading here. Is it easy to get a condo or apartment? The SFH market is very tight right now.
What would a landlord want to make up for the BK? Mine did not do a credit check, when he saw our application. I wonder how many of them really do it. If you have a good paying job, then they may assume you have a good financial history. Could you just omit mentioning BK, and fill out the application, hoping he won’t do a credit check? Or if he does, offer to give more than one months deposit, although that may not be legal. I wonder what Tenant Law attorney Steven Kellman would say. He’s at the Tenant Legal Center on Balboa Avenue, and has a weekly tenant advice column in the U-T. He was featured on the news the other day, in a story about rentals.
