While Congress scrambles to plug more money into the “cash for clunkers” program, an Obama administration official said today the popular trade-in program is still running.
The House of Representatives will vote today on a measure to add $2 billion from federal stimulus funds to the “cash for clunkers” program, according to the office of U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley. The Waterloo Democrat is an original co-sponsor of the legislation creating the program.
The Senate is expected to take up the measure next week, a spokesman, Jeff Giertz, said.
The “cash for clunkers” initiative, officially called the Car Allowance Rebate System, or CARS, has proved popular with the public.
