“The South Koreans would love to throw out the US from the military bases.” –> Absolutely not true.
I’m not sure if you were of Korean descent or related to Korea in any way but US military presence in Korea is necessary. Sure it’s inconvenient but look at the map.
N. Korea is just across the border from S. Korea. There is a reason US didn’t attack (limited or all out) N. Korea when US found out N. Korea was developing nukes. And US gov’t seriously considered this. Any kind of war (limited or all out) will cause the kind of destruction and deaths that will make the war in Iraq look a minor event. If you didn’t know this already, you are obviously not qualified enough to make such a statement re US military presence in S. Korea.
And why would you not want a war on Korean peninsula? There are many but since you talk about following the money, the answer I’d give you is that S. Korea has 10th or 11th largest economy. Hence S. Korea consumes lots of products from US.
You are free to have your own opinions but please don’t make statement re Korea when you don’t know that much. Mean no offense.
Besides, S. Korea is one of the best examples of nation-building that worked, although it took 40 + yrs before a democracy was able to take root. I guess that’s why it is/was foolish to believe that Iraq can be a democratic nation in the time period our gov’t led us to believe. S. Korea doesn’t have the kind of religious conflicts like Iraq and it still took 40+ yrs for it to gain stable democracy…
