Well, you specifically asked about the Otay Ranch/Windingwalk development and Brookfield Homes, and I happen to fit that bill. We closed on our home last May and moved in in June.
We moved to Chula Vista after renting a home in the Coronado Cays for a year. The area was not our style, and I fell in love with Chula Vista after going house hunting with a couple of friends who were looking to buy down here.
We don’t regret our decision one bit. I don’t work, and my husband works at the Amphib Base in Coronado though, so we don’t have the same commute issues as you might have. But honestly, the traffic coming into Otay Ranch is not as horrific as people make it sound, and I’ve only had to use the toll roads twice. If you take Telegraph Canyon, you’re going to run into some major problems. If you take Olympic Parkway, you’ll be fine.
Our daughter is a teen who attends Eastlake Middle School, and will attend Olympian High in July. Our son has autism and is enrolled in a GREAT program at Parkview Elementary. We came from one of the best districts in the country (Montgomery County Maryland) and also the Coronado School District, and honestly, we’ve been very happy with the schools out here, and I think my kid has been able to maintain the same standard of learning she had in Maryland and in Coronado.
And just some stats, we are a young black couple in our thirties. My husband is a Navy Doctor, and most of our neighbors are military, which was very surprising to us. In just our cluster of homes, there is another black family, two Asian families, and the rest are white. No Hispanics that I’ve seen YET, but I’m sure they are around. I just haven’t seen them.
