We are living “Idiocracy” to be sure. When I was a kid we watched The Carol Burnett Show, Good Times, All In The Family, etc… There was no cursing, very little violence, and for sex people were satisfied with saucy double entendres (remember Match Game?) that went straight over the kids heads. We children of the late 60s/early 70s also loved reruns of the older shows like The Brady Bunch and The Andy Griffith Show, even though they were from an earlier time and seemed a little square. Now we all get our jollies watching people smash things or shoot and torture one another on “24”. Truly amazing. I doubt a 10 year old today could make it through 2 minutes of Andy Griffith before reaching for the XBox controller or switching the TV to some military re-enactment on the history channel. Though these shows are heavy on talk and details, they never show you what bodies look like after they’ve been blown apart. Of course that would be in bad taste.
It’s only a matter of time before the number one TV show in the US will be “Ow My Balls!”
