It is NOT “free” healthcare. They negotiate for wages and benefits, and they take lower wages in exchange for healthcare benefits and pensions. It’s all part of their compensation package. None of it is free.[/quote][/quote]
What school district. I had a friend who worked at a private school. Those guys were on a true free market system and got paid pennies as teacher… The way it should be. There’s always somebody else who would love to have that job.
3 months off for summer and another month off between Christmas, presidents week, and spring break. 2 weeks in sick time and paid vacation days, and he’ll a teacher is approaching the half a year mark of time off. This is considered part time work were I come from. $80k and health benefits for 7 months of work is a JOKE! Teachers should not be sacred cows, they the majority of the problem. What’s the % of the budget we spend on education here in CA?
That ~$80K is for a senior teacher with around 15 years of experience, and a graduate degree. It’s not “low wage,” nor should it be.
It’s funny how people think teaching should be a low-paying job. I suppose we could look at ANY profession and claim that people should be earning less. To be sure, everyone is overpaid today, as it’s almost guaranteed that someone else is willing to do your job for less money.

Yeah its so awesome. My wife is a 7 year teacher in CA with a masters making a whole 60k which I make more without an MBA. Oh and the awesome heathcare of PPO $900 amonth or HMO at $500 a month. Wow we have it sooo made! My heathcare is the same price in the prvate sector job I have. The unions dont do much except take money but getting crazy cash and great bennies is not the norm.[/quote]
