You’re right, not all brands of rice are equal. However, they range between $30-40 for a 50 lb bag. One of those 50 lb bag can easily feed 2 people for at least 1/2 a year. 2 bottle of soy sauce can feed you about 1/2 a year. So, total cost for food for a a year would be ~$100. That’s what you call depression cooking :-).
