JJ Cale, who wrote Clapton’s “After Midnight” and “Cocaine” as well as Lynyrd Skynrd’s “Call Me The Breeze”, lives there on his 3 acre spread with his musician wife Christine Lakeland. Clapton actually spent the summer with him there in 2006, writing songs. Clapton enjoyed his trips to town so much he named his next album “Road to Escondido”.
And finally, Glen Bell (founder of Taco Bell) owns Bell Gardens, a 15 acre ranch at 30841 Cole Grade Road in Valley Center which is open to the public. No word on whether the Taco Bell chihuahua (who recently died) lives there with him.
