Does nursing home pay the doctors, pharmacists, etc as an employee? I know that doctors are employees of the hospital and hospital pays their salary and benefits. I looked up average patient to RN ratio for a nursing home and it’s 30 to 1. That’s almost 10x more than the hospital. Also, I’m sure hospital get sued a lot more than nursing home, since most people who go to nursing are preparing to die, while most people who go into a hospital expect to be cured.
The fact that non-profit and for-profit hospital charge similar fees means either non-profit are hiding their cash somewhere or there’s not a lot of profit in running the hospital.
