When I first got out of college I lived downtown (before it was trendy) and commuted to Oceanside. It was a reverse commute – 40 miles, 40 minutes… But I swore I’d NEVER commute more than 30 minutes each way again. If I wanted to go to dinner with friends I had to factor in the time to commute home, time to primp, time to get back out again… and would end up having to leave early just to make it work. Soooo not worth it.[/quote]
I used to live in Oceanside and work in Scripps area. My work hour was flexible, but I hate having to check traffic before I leave/come. Days where I want to leave early, I can’t, because after traffic, I’d get home not much sooner than if I stay at work 30-60 min later to miss traffic. Then there’s the dentist/doctors/etc appointments. Or if your spouse/kid get sick and you have to go home and tend to them. Not fun if you have to deal w/ traffic too.
I guess to each their own. If the OP can handle and want to deal w/ 45 minutes one way commute, then he/she can get some very nice houses for the price. Much better than anything around the 56.
