They may be described as an average shedder, but bear in mind those tiny little grey hairs show up on every dark piece of clothing and furniture you own. Weimeraners are magnificent dogs, but remember, as with most sporting breeds, they need a LOT of exercise, and, as you state, they are quite large.
One thing I look for in a dog breed is longevity. Most large breeds don’t live very long. I personally get quite attached emotionally to my dogs, and it is quite painful when they pass on. I don’t like to go through that every 7 years or so. Many of the smaller breeds live quite a bit longer.
I myself am an Australian Cattle Dog fan, and have been for years (Mad Max’s dog). The one I have now I have had for 14 years, has been with me since undergrad. Even took him to Japan for 3 years. They are incredibly intelligent, very active, but twice a year they shed their coat like the Peanuts character Pigpen. Drives my wife nuts.
