Sounds like a lot of these neighborhoods suck. Write down the addresses so we know where to avoid. 😉
My neighbors and my neighborhood are great but I agree that it makes a difference what you put into it. Also no HOA here and obviously no gates (well some people have personal ones) which may make things more friendly. I have lived here since 1996 and know a ton of neighbors and their families on a first name basis. The neighborhood is a mix of all different ages and incomes as well if you think about the fact that there are a lot of original owners who bought in the early to mid 70’s. If we are out front, which my husband is a lot since he’s a really handy guy, we end up chit chatting with the neighbors. In fact I walk with another neighbor (further away neighbor, not in this immediate neighborhood) and I secretly sometimes hope other neighbors aren’t out when I power walk to meet her halfway because we’re bound to get caught up in conversation and I’ll be late! The next upgrade to our house is going to be a front porch. I think neighborhoods would be more friendly if everyone was hanging out there. We don’t have a dog but we’re out walking, biking, rollerblading, etc. often so we know all the neighborhood dog walkers well. 99% of the dogs and owners are great but we did have one run in with a big dog who was not on a leash a while ago. My husband had some words for that lady and she has kept him on a leash at least when we are around ever since. Sorry, your dog had better be flawless if it’s not on a leash around my kids and I don’t fault the dog, I fault the owner.
There is one neighbor who is a problem and it is this neighbor who made me finally register at Piggington because I had to ask a question. But he is insane (clinically) and threatened to sue us over his lost ocean view (which we think he lost c. 1985). We called his bluff and nothing happened and I literally haven’t seen the guy in over a year and a half. He is bipolar and he must have sunk back into a depression and never leaves his house anymore which is mainly what he has done since I have lived here.
