So let see where this ends up. My understanding of the difference between the Lx and the Ex on the civic is as follows.
The ex includes
-alloy wheels
-moonroof
-better radio
-all disc brakes
San Diego Dealer Pacific Honda is at Invoice minus $1000 manufacturers rebate
Hardin in LA is at Invoice minus 1000 minus $465
L.A. dealers for honda/acuras in my experience were much lower than S.D, because of the competition. i think the only way you could possibly do better than L.A. is if you(or your friend) try to chase after those dealer “loss-leaders” that they advertise in the papers.
However, toyota dealers are more willing to do loss-leads than honda dealers, specifically for the high volume cars like corolla/camry. My experience with honda dealers is that are willing to haggle over the internet/email because it saves them time on some of the econ-boxes for which the margins aren’t as good. Forget about loss-leads for acuras.
Differences between LX and EX my understanding include:
Alloy wheels (though you should be able to get them on an LX-S)
60/40 split seat versus full bench
4 disc brakes
better stereo
slightly more storage compartments
ability to get navigation
variable intermittent wipers
Surprised they still slap on drums on the rear.. Oh well, ford still has solid axle rear suspension on setup for on mustangs instead of independent rears
I guess your friend isn’t considering a GM or Chrysler. 🙂
You can also call Scott Robinson Honda in L.A. to see if they’ll do better
