Raybyrnes and FLU, I completely agree with you guys about transferrable sales skills, but I think the problem is a large proportion of those ex-mortgage brokers don’t really have them.
I used to make a pretty good living in commision retail sales, and I can tell you, to make a living at it you have to work your ass off. In addition, to be REALLY successful in the $100k plus range in a lot of cases you almost have to be a sociopath who really doesn’t care about people. I wonder how many of those former mortgage brokers are willing to work that hard. If you’re not really cut out for it you invariably burn out after a few years.
It’s amazing how much less work I find being a physician compared to being a salesperson, but I spend a WHOLE LOT more time doing it.
