Ralph: Anyone growing up in the SF/Bay Area when I did (1970s/1980s) is familiar with Kurt Rambis (Cupertino HS, Santa Clara University). I saw him play my first year of high school (1979) at SCU. Our football coach had taken a group of us there to show what “work ethic” was all about and Rambis was his favorite example. I don’t know if I learned anything about work ethic, but he played with the ferocity of a badger.
