I don’t know if you can remove the stigma very easily. You probably need a a decade or so of constant 10 API score before it might change. One of the main reason why I say that is because I use Mira Mesa as a prime example. MMHS has been ranked 8-9 for the last 11 years (since the start of the API score). Yet, there’s still a sigma against MM as having bad school.
One interesting I noticed about San Marcos school is, the HS actually score better than the MS. I usually see it the other way around. Also, if you go back further than this last year, you’ll see SMHS has been increasing their API score. Before 2007, it was only ranked 5-6.
