Oh, one more comment as I see some commenting on mechanical engineering salaries in San Diego.
Assuming your husband is a degreed mechanical engineer…I can tell you that mechanical engineers with merely three to five years of experience should not consider offers below $85,000/year in San Diego. Plenty with those qualifications do take offers below that in San Diego, and I think they are idiots who don’t know their market value; sorry if this offends anyone.
Eight years ago as senior mechanical engineer working in Chicago, i was getting multiple offers from San Diego at $85K and above. Obviously as I looked for work in 2007 in San Diego I got countless offers in the San Diego area in the $85K to $95K range. What was funny were the many employers who also solicited thinking I would interview with them for jobs paying less than $85K.
