You can see if a document is recorded (but not the contents/details) for free at the county recorders website if you know the buyer’s name.

If you see a “trust deed” between the buyer and a financial institution, at around the same time as the purchase – that’s your mortgage.

You can get a copy of the document mailed to you – but that costs money.

I believe you can see the document if you go in person to the recorders office… but I haven’t done that. But you’d have to pay for a hard copy if you wanted a print out.
