LaCrosse is also a good sport for athletic baseball players who figured out at about 13-14 they can’t hit.
Baseball = not fun if no hit ball
Baseball = blast if one can drive ball
I do see often where a kid was very athletic with perhaps less than stellar mechanics in Little League… they can get by until they move to the big field. Then if you can’t hit but like action and contact go play some Lacrosse.
Many of the major high school football programs around the county encourage non-baseball players to play Lacrosse.
Of course I think with football being anaerobic bursts of max speed (unlike say soccer which is a little more steady state aerobic) you have to be very careful. i.e. don’t get them in a position where they’ll lose too much weight jogging a lot. I remember the star running back of our football program in HS insisting on wrestling in winter and he’d wrestle at 145. By the time he was a Sr. he wasn’t all that effective of a tailback because he needed to be more like 175-185, but his football weight was maybe 155. Anaerobic sprint work helps build muscle, and your football guys need that. Plus go watch Track and Field in the Olympics, do you want to look like a 10K guy or a sprinter? (assuming you are a football player and not meant to be a distance runner with a sleight frame).
