Your best bet is going to be solar panels. 🙂
We haven’t hit $500 yet, I said that $1K was “more than” double. As an example, my house (about the same distance from ocean as yours) had these bills last year ($/kwh)
We are doing the research on solar right now – a lot of good posts on this forum about that as a matter of fact. Once we get far enough along I’ll probably start asking some q’s to fill the gaps in my knowledge.
