I don’t know about that broad characterization. I have a 50 year old house with the original oak hardwood floors–I love them–other than the fact that they really need to be refinished.
I’m in the middle of a minor remodel as well: I’m replacing all the interior doors/jambs/casings and baseboards in my house and repainting everything.
The carpentry work is now done and painting is in progress.
I like a nice house as much as the next person…but then I’m paying for this remodel with CASH out of my savings account, not a HELOC or a cash out refi that is rolled into my mortgage so I’m VERY AWARE how much everything costs and have spent 6 months trying to find a contractor who wasn’t trying to retire on my job.
