India was rich in culture and gold before the British decided to plunder it. Yes, the country had its share of problems with fighting in between colonial rulers. India became a republic and a democratic country due to its charismatic leaders who fought for independence.
The only thing India retained from British rule that has been of help is the English language, which the new generation is reaping benefits from.
Any country has its unique problems. Even the US.
